JD's Birthday

As many of you know John-David loves chocolate. But not just any chocolate, not Hershey's or even Cadbury. Not Willy Wonka... he starts at Dove and goes up from there. Many of his favorite desserts are chocolate. When we were married my Mother ordered a chocolate truffle cake from an amazing bakery in Anchorage as the Grooms cake. It is absolutely divine! A dense chocolate cake with a thin layer of chocolate mousse covered generously with a dark chocoalte ganache. Mmmm.... my mouth waters just thinking about it. Since it is $35 for an 8 inch cake (and they would have to ship it 3500 miles) I've taken to making my own version of this cake. I make it for Birthdays, our Anniversary, Father's Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, and sometimes when I'm in a real baking mood. Last time I made it JD and I ate the WHOLE 10 inch cake in a week by ourselves. seriously, Julian only likes the frosting. This time around I made them into cupcakes for his birthday and we shared some with friends and my Mom :).I think he enjoyed them. But at about 360 calories per cupcake who wouldn't enjoy them? John-David turned 29 this year on September 4th. Happy Birthday sweetheart :)
