Our Plans

People keep asking what our "plans" are since we've graduated. Well, let me at least say this: Our plan is that the plan will change and so we've tried to plan accordingly. :) We've set a few semi-arbitrary deadlines for ourselves just so that we have an idea of where to go and/or what to do. So here it is, our plan.

We currently don't have a long-term job, John-David has been looking and sending out resumes and everything else. The job market is low on jobs and high on applicants. I've heard that for some legal jobs there have been over 300 hundred applicants for one position, not all new graduates. So, JD will continue to search for jobs all over and here in Utah through the end of May. If, by the end of May there is no job and no immediate possibility of a job (i.e. he's interviewed but won't hear back until the first week of June) then we will withdraw from the Utah Bar and apply for the Alaska Bar. We will then pack our stuff, put it in a storage unit here in Utah and take what we'll need for 2 months, pack our car and drive to Alaska. JD will then continue to apply for jobs in Alaska (and all over) while studying for the bar which he will take at the end of July. If he does not have a job or the immediate possibility of a job by the end of August then he will fly down to Utah and pack our stuff into a Uhaul and drive it to Alaska. We will live there and we will plan on opening our own practice in November. He won't get his bar exam results until October so November is the earliest that he can practice on his own.

So there you go, our plan.

I am not looking forward to graduating. But I have the same plan, of sorts. If no job offers then I will move back to my hometown and hang my shingle! Good luck!
